Welcome to bestforthefamily.com!

My family is larger than average  -  there are six of us.  My hubby and I married at age 39 (we are only 6 weeks apart in age) and with our marriage came the blending of our two families – his two sons (ages 13 and 7 currently) and my daughter (age 11), my two miniature dachshunds (ages 6 and 7), plus we had a daughter together in November 2009. When we are all together it makes for a very busy household!

We have a unique family life and it comes with unique day to day stuff that makes my life very unboring. I am a military wife (hubby is in the Canadian Navy) and my husband and I both grew up as military kids. We probably deal with the same blended family issues that many do – part time kids, our exes, different parenting styles in different houses, the step parent thing. We love to travel and do things together as a family as much as possible. Hockey, gymnastics, karate, swimming and soccer are common destinations for us.  That’s why we finally had to suck it up and buy a van although I said I would never drive one!

I work full time, volunteer with military family programs, love to do crafty things, bake, read, garden and work on DIY home renovations. I try to get my butt to the gym or outside for a walk or something to be active but the sofa, a good book or my computer lead me astray I can be a procrastinator, a cranky bitch and plain old lazy! My flaws are things I try to improve on but am not always successful. I also watch too much TV – The Food Network, HGTV, House, The Good Wife and the DIY Network are my favourite shows. I tell myself they are educational content but that excuse only goes so far……..

We live in beautiful Nova Scotia Canada on the east coast, very close to the Atlantic Ocean. This is a good thing.  I am from the west coast of Canada originally so I need to be near ocean if possible. Winters are cold and snowy, summers are usually hot with a few hurricanes once in a while – I love storms!!
